Did you know that there are more than 1.71 billion Facebook users? Every day that number grows significantly. When you look at it year-over-year, Facebook is growing at about 17%. As Facebook grows rapidly in user size, they’ve also added a significant amount of tools onto their platform: Facebook Live Video, Facebook at Work, a Facebook Shopping Tab, a “Donate” button on Nonprofit Facebook pages, just to name a few. If you aren’t fundraising on facebook yet, read on…

Hopefully by now your nonprofit is already using the “Donate” button that Facebook released. If you’re not, add it to your page today. It’s easy. Here’s a resource that will teach you how.

Have you noticed the picture below on your Facebook News Feed as of late? Facebook’s latest tool to benefit nonprofits’ causes, Facebook Fundraisers, harnesses the power of peer-to-peer fundraising to raise money for nonprofits. Peer-to-peer fundraising, which leverages your current group of supporters to fundraise on your organization’s behalf, could be a significant game changer when it comes to fundraising because it allows nonprofits to tap into unknown pools of people who may turn into possible supporters and regular donors down the line.

On that note, here are the top 3 things you need to know about fundraising on Facebook:

  1. Facebook Fundraisers are for U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofits. If your nonprofit didn’t make the original launch list, sign-up here.
  2. Fundraisers let your supporters and other individuals raise money for your organization on Facebook by allowing them to create a page that they can share to tell their networks about your nonprofit’s mission, goals, and reasons to donate.
  3. The individuals in your supporters’ networks can donate easily right on the page created. After they donate, they can share your page so that their network can then be alerted of the fundraising page as well.

So get out there and encourage your current base of supporters to set up fundraising pages for your nonprofit that will grow your donations and attract new supporters!
