The tendency for people to over-emphasize dispositional and personality-based factors for someone’s behavior and under-emphasize situational explanations, whereas they use situational explanations to describe their own behavior. In other words, people tend to assume that a person’s actions depend on what “kind” of person someone is rather than on the social and environmental forces that influence the person.
