Against traditional economic thinking, we do not discount the value of things at a costant rate, where it is less valuable the father out into the future. Instead, we may judge something as less valuable because we are not willing to wait for it now, but we might be willing to value it more when it is far out into the future; waiting for a week and a year may feel the same to us in the present.
